The World Wrestling Entertainment Inc (WWE) is a publicly traded company which is based in Stamford Connecticut. WWE's main business consists of sports entertainment and its major revenue stream comes from its extensive promotion of professional wrestling and its allied businesses which consist of product licensing, direct product sales, wrestling films and music.

Professional wrestling is a stimulated sport which features a combination of wrestling and theater. WWE evolved from the earlier organizations that promoted the sport namely, The Capitol Wrestling Corporation and the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). WWE now promotes the sport under three brands RAW, SmackDown and ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling). RAW is broadcast on the USA network in the USA while it is available on Sky sports in the U.K. and Ireland and on various other networks in other countries as well. Similarly SmackDown currently broadcast of the CW network in the USA while it is syndicated by a whole host of television networks in various parts of the globe.

Such is the popularity of the sport that WWE has many licensing deals with companies such as Acclaim, THQ and Jakks Pacific to produce a wide array of WWE toys and games which consist of action figures of the popular wrestlers, video games, DVDs and other products like items of clothing, bedding and accessories as well.

In February 2008, the company also entered into a comprehensive multi-year licensing agreement with the world's leading toy company Mattel Inc which is to become effective from January 2010. Mattel will then become WWE master toy licensee and this license will cover all global territories.
