Star Wars Toys

The Star Wars movies captured the imagination of science fiction fans everywhere when they were first released in 1970s. Hollywood great George Lucas is responsible for creating the many fictional characters that featured in the original Star Wars movie and all the sequels and prequels that followed the original. Apart from the main characters who became cult figures, these movies also showcased spectacular special effects as they depicted the war between the good and the evil which takes place in a fictional galaxy.

The Hollywood Studio Twentieth Century Fox released the first Star Wars Movie in May 1977. This movie starred actor Mark Hamill as the dashing Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as the damsel in distress Princess Leia and Harrison Ford as rogue spice smuggler who joins the Rebel Alliance against the evil Galactic Empire. These main characters the were joined by a couple of lovable droids called R2D2 and C3P0 and Han Solo's furry copilot, the Wookie Chewbacca.

The movie was a massive hit which became a global pop culture phenomenon and the original Star Wars movie and its two sequels 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'The Return of the Jed'i inspired a wide array of merchandise like Star Wars Toys which are available until today and include figurines of all the characters including the evil Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers. These toys also include representations of other characters from the other movies like the teddy bear like Ewoks who were first introduced in the movie 'The Return of the Jedi' and the goblin like Yoda. Apart from Star Wars Toys, the movie also inspired novels, a television series, video games and comic books which enthralled fans worldwide. The fans seemed to adore the fictional universe created by the movie where the good was always shown to triumph over evil and the Force was an important attribute which helped the Jedi ( good guys) defeat the Sith( the dark side).

Twenty two years after Star Wars was released George Lucas created and released the second trilogy which was in fact a prequel to the original trilogy and generated mass hysteria once again. The second trilogy consisted of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. This was followed by Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones which was released on May 16th 2002 and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith which was released in theaters world wide on May 19, 2005.

Yet another Star Wars movie is due to release later this summer in August.
