Marvel Toys is the toy division of Marvel Entertainment. This entity which was created out of the merger of a company called Toy Biz with the Marvel Entertainment group. The company used to previously produce toys under a license from DC comics.
Toy Biz started to produce Marvel Toys in the early 1990s when it produced better made toys for the Spider-Man toy line which was largely based on Fox TV's television show from the same decade. It went on to produce more Marvel Toys in the form of action figures for the 'Marvel Super Heroes' line. These action figures consisted of figures of popular characters which included both the good guys and their enemies like Captain America, Daredevil, Dr Doom, Dr Octopus, Silver Surfer, the Hulk, Spider-Man and the Punisher. |
Toy Biz produced yet another line for Marvel Toys later that included action figures based on a fictional Marvel Superhero team called the X-Men. It produced action figures of all the popular characters like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, Wolverine and Archangel. Such was the popularity of these action figures amongst the fans of series that the company went on to subsequently produce three more lines of X-Men figures. These lines featured all costume and anatomy changes that were introduced in the animated characters of the comics. ToyBiz also produced Marvel Toys for The X-Men Evolution and the Ghost Rider lines and it also began to focus on the other Marvel Toys which were based on immensely popular Marvel comic heroes like Hulk, Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer. |
Toy Biz also produced a range of special action figures of Spider-man called the Spider-Man Classics line The Spider-Man classics line featured the popular character in many new poses and with as many as thirty points of articulation. The line also included figures of Spider man foes like Venom. The line was a great success and led to the creation of the Marvel Legends line which featured iconic Marvel characters like Captain America, Hulk, and Iron Man etc. The Marvel Legends line has proved to be a big success and it currently features fifteen different series.
Toy Biz then produced Marvel Toys which consisted of action figures for many Marvel Movies characters as well like the Hulk, Fantastic Four and the XMen. However when Toy Biz was merged with Marvel entertainment in 2007, the Marvel movie franchises and the Marvel Legend lines were given to the American giant toy company Hasbro to produce.
