LCD TV's

Liquid Crystal Displays are ubiquitous in our lives today. The technology that uses Liquid Crystal Displays is used in almost all the devices that are used in our daily lives like digital clocks, microwave ovens, car dashboards, calculators, stereos, thermometers, luggage and bathroom scales. This Liquid Crystal Display technology has today even extended to computer monitors and television sets successfully.

This technology uses the twisted nematic liquid crystal for the most common type of displays such as the ones found in LCD TVs, LCD monitors and LCD projectors. This naturally twisted crystalline structure reacts to electric currents by untwisting to the extent of the voltage of the current to which it is exposed.

How do LCD TVs compare to your old standard TV sets?

Unlike older standard TV sets LCD TVs are easier to watch as they provide brighter and higher contrasts than the old standard television sets. LCD TVs perform well under any ambient light conditions. Brightly lit rooms will not obstruct their images nor will light emitting from a lamp result in a glare on their images as is the case with old televisions. Also LCD TVs do not cause much eye strain as they don’t tend to flicker like old TV sets.

You can also watch TV on a LCD TV from any angle in a room as flat screen LCD displays have up to a 160° viewing angle. LCD TVs have smaller dot pitch as well i.e the distance between subpixels of the same color in adjoining pixel triads. A smaller dot pitch results in a sharper picture and this aspect is extremely beneficial for displaying computer signals and graphs. Ideally an LCD TV should have a dot pitch of .28mm for displaying the finest images. Each sub pixel in am LCD TV has its own transistor electrode which emits light and creates smooth and uniformly lit images across the entire the display. It also enables these displays to project images that are saturated with color

A LCD TV is capable of displaying HDTV signals as well as those from regular analog broadcasts and home video. It can also function effectively as a computer monitor as it can accept any video format. These LCD TVs are also often plug and play devices as they come equipped with built in speakers and tuners.

A number of manufacturers make LCD TVs like Sharp, Sony, Samsung, LG but according to recent findings and consumer surveys, Sony with its Bravia range of LCD TVs seems to rule the roost when it comes to LCD Tvs.
