Iron Man Toys

In July 1994, the erstwhile Toy Biz toy company which is now Marvel Toys unveiled a new action figure line called Iron Man. This Iron Man action figure was based on an animated series which had also been launched by Marvel Comics in 1994. Toy Biz had achieved much success with its line of Spider-Man toys and hence it decided to launch this new action figure called Iron Man.

The Iron Man Toys were 5" action figures and they basically consisted of two types Armored and Unarmored figures. The Armored figures were essentially variations of the central Iron Man figure and each of these figures was equipped with a vac-metallized armor which could be removed and rotated amongst the various figures easily. The inspiration behind this concept was the success that the company had achieved with extremely popular Batman action figure line which actually featured multiple versions of the main character. However this concept failed to take off in the case of Iron Man and the line was dropped after the fifth series.

However with the release of the ' Iron Man' movie in May 2008, the armored avenger Iron Man is now enjoying a new lease of life as new Iron Man Toys and collectibles have been released by Hasbro toys to coincide with the release of the new movie. The new Iron Man toys include several new action figures, role play sets and also games which can be accessed via the official Hasbro web site.

Some of the new Iron Man action figures are the 'Repulsor Power Iron Man' which is a motion activated figure which comes with a stock of 3 AAA batteries. The Repulsor Power Iron Man comes equipped with Tony Stark's (Iron Man' alter ego) main weapons, a repulsor launcher and two yellow missiles. When you manipulate the figure's boots upwards it activates blast off sounds and when you pose the boots downwards it activates landing sounds. Along with these features there is also a button which is placed on the 'Repulsor Power Iron Man' action figure's chest that activates the glowing repulsors and then the Iron Man proclaims that he is Iron man by saying the phrase 'I am Iron Man'.

Along with the 'Repulsor Power Iron Man; there are other Iron Man figures in the line like the Iron Man Mark 1 which features the armor suit that Tony Stark initially developed in captivity along with the repulsor technology which helped him break free. The line also includes other versions of Iron Man like Iron Man Mark II and Iron Man Mark III both of which feature more sophisticated armory and weapons. Also available are figures of Iron Man's friends and arch enemies like War Machine, Titanium Man and Crimson Dynamo, so when you are playing with these figures you can have hours of fun recreating scenarios that feature a face off between the various characters from the Iron Man series.
