Hannah Montana is the name of an Emmy award nominated American television series that airs on the Disney Channel and is aimed at 'tween' girls who are between the ages of 7 and 14. The series first aired on March 24, 2006 and formed an instant connection with its target audience. The main protagonist of the series is a young girl who leads a double life. By day she is an average teenage school girl called Miley Stewart who at night transforms into the famous pop star Hannah Montana.

Hannah Montana conceals her real identity from the public and only her family and close friends know of her exciting dual life. The character of Miley Stewart is played by Miley Cyrus who is the daughter of a real life American ,country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy Ray Cyrus also co stars in the series as Miley's father. The series which attracts millions of viewers is set to return for its third season in 2008 and according to trade reports a movie based on the series will also be released in 2009. Disney executives say that the series has succeeded way beyond their expectations. The series has also spawned sell out concerts featuring Miley Cyrus in the USA.

Disney had allowed the production of Hannah Montana products including Hannah Montana toys and merchandise in debut year of the series. A company called Play Along Toys then went on to release the Hannah Montana fashion dolls, Hannah Montana singing dolls and the Miley Stewart doll along with other merchandise in August 2007. More such dolls including Oliver, Lilly, and later Jake Ryan dolls were released in November 2007. These toys were the most popular toys of the Christmas season in 2007. Now there are hundreds of Hannah Montana toys and other products like lunch boxes, backpacks and wallets that are available on the market. Current estimates indicate that sales from Hannah Montana toys and other merchandise totaled $100 million in 2007.

The singing Hannah Montana toy is fashioned on the character's pop persona and includes clothing, accessories and even hit tunes from the show. This 13 inch tall Hannah Montana doll wears a miniature version of what Miley wore to one of her sell out Hannah Montana concerts on her 70 city tour.
