Desktop Computers

A desktop computer is a personal computer which also commonly known as a PC and which is used regularly at a particular location. Desktop computers come in a wide array of styles and are manufactured by a number of companies' located world wide like Lenovo, Dell, Apple Inc, Hewlett Packard etc.

These desktop computers can be in the form of tower units or small form factor models which can be easily hidden behind an LCD monitor. The desktop computer is usually a computer which has its visual display atop a desk and is operated by using a separate keyboard which is plugged into the CPU or the central processing unit which is housed in the tower or small form case.


Desktops are often priced lower than laptops as their spare parts and extensions are usually more standardized and more easily available than laptops. Desktop computers are also easily up gradable and can be customized according to your usage more easily than laptops.

Apple Inc has created and popularized desktop computers that combine the monitor and the CPU into the same case. These desktop computers are popularly called Macs and they are often slightly more portable than the traditional desktop computer as they can simply be unplugged and carried to a new location.


Most PC 's use the Windows Operating System software developed by Microsoft Corporation to run their applications and devices while Macs are loaded with their own MAC OS software. PCs are generally used in corporate environments while Macs have traditionally been used in creative environments and are commercially popular as well. Both machines now come empowered with Intel processors and use devices like memory, hard drives and graphics cards. In the business world today there is a tremendous rivalry between the Mac and the PC as they both are battling for supremacy and increase in market share and use.

Current studies indicate that employees nowadays would rather use the operating system that they use at home at work too and more employers are responding to this call and installing Macs, as Macs are now enabled to run popular Windows software. Macs are also perceived to be more stable than PCs as they don’t have the same security issues that plague PCs like spy ware and viruses. The growth in the popularity of gadgets like the iPod and the iPhone which synchronize effortlessly with the Mac has also helped the Mac make inroads into spheres which were until now dominated by the PC.

However both types of machines have their legions of fans who can debate endlessly on the pros and cons of a particular system. Your choice to buy a desktop computer however should ultimately be guided by the use you would have for it and not by the popular vote on the issue of the Mac v/s the PC.
